Controller

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000

Job Summary

The Controller will manage the firm’s accounting operations, compliance, and financial reporting, working closely with the firm owner. This position involves handling the integrity of internal systems, overseeing compliance obligations, and managing treasury functions. Expertise in Sage accounting software and Practice CS is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger management using Sage accounting software.
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements to the firm owner.
  • File gross receipts tax returns, franchise tax returns, and other firm-specific compliance filings.

Systems and Compliance Management

  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the firm’s practice management system, Practice CS, including report writing and data maintenance.
  • Maintain compliance for the firm’s 401(k) and flexible benefits plans, ensuring all reporting and filings are accurate and timely.

Billing and Collections

  • Oversee and process billing operations using Practice CS, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing.
  • Interact directly with clients to resolve billing inquiries and manage collection efforts to maintain cash flow.

Treasury and Cash Management

  • Manage the firm’s treasury function, ensuring risk and liquidity are effectively monitored.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts regularly and prepare weekly cash position reports.
  • Manage cash sweeps to interest-bearing accounts and oversee other liquidity optimization strategies.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Develop and oversee the firm’s annual budget and financial forecasts.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to the firm owner to inform strategic decision-making.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • CPA certification is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in public accounting or professional services is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Sage accounting software and Practice CS is required.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial compliance standards.
  • Advanced expertise in accounting systems, particularly Sage and Practice CS.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a focus on risk management and cash flow optimization.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and the firm owner effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
